Semaglutide:
Sema, as we call it, is an FDA approved medication originally developed for diabetes management, and often known as Wegovy and Ozempic. Its mechanism of action mimics the hormone GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which regulates appetite and food intake. By slowing gastric emptying and promoting feelings of fullness, semaglutide reduces caloric intake and encourages significant weight loss. Clinical trials show patients can lose up to 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks. Its other benefits include helping lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Tirzepatide:
Tirzepatide, or Monjaro, is an FDA approved medication approved for type 2 diabetes and is expected to receive approval for weight loss soon. This is a dual agonist, second generation medication, targeting GLP-1 and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors, offering a more comprehensive approach to managing both blood sugar and appetite. Retatrutide:
Retatrutide is the newest, third generation medication we have for weight loss, acting as a triple agonist. This one targets GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors.
